Enforced Closure

Wednesday 18 December 2019

Dear Parent/Carer

School Closure: Thursday 19 December & Friday 20 December 2019

Regrettably, following advice and an internal risk assessment, I have reached the decision to close the College to staff and students on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 December 2019.

A comprehensive risk assessment clearly demonstrates that we will not have a sufficient number of staff present in the College over the next two days, to operate safely.

A significant number of our teaching and support staff are currently absent due to Norovirus and seasonal influenza (flu). In addition to this, we are struggling to maintain a suitable temperature in all areas of the building, which I believe could increase the level of staff (and student) sickness and absence further. We are also aware of a number of staff and students, with underlying health conditions, who we feel are currently at increased risk.

We will take the opportunity of the closure of the building, to organise a full deep clean in readiness for the New Year. During this time the issues around the heating system will also be fully investigated and acted on.

We are aware that school closures inconvenience parents and carers. I trust you will understand the exceptional circumstances that we are currently facing. Please be assured that this decision has only been reached after extremely careful consideration, and as a last resort. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and understanding.

Yours sincerely

Mr G R Potts
