4th December 2023
I am writing to you to convey my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected closure of Newman College on Monday, December 4th.
The decision to close the college was not taken lightly, and I understand the disruption it may have caused for both students and parents alike. Unfortunately, our hands were tied due to an issue beyond our immediate control. The college, being a private finance initiative (PFI), relies on external entities for the maintenance and operation of the building.
We have been grappling with a heating and hot water issue stemming from a leaky radiator, resulting in a significant drop in pressure within the heating system. Despite our efforts and communication with the building owners, the situation persists, leaving us with no alternative but to suspend in-person classes and transition to remote learning.
I share in your frustration and disappointment over the performance of the building, which should ideally be a conducive environment for the learning and growth of our young students. It is indeed disheartening to witness the impact on their education due to circumstances beyond our control. However, I am also mindful that such news has arrived too often to parents and as we enter our twelfth year of occupancy, problems still exist. Rest assured, we are actively engaging with the building owners to resolve this matter promptly and have contacted the Council and Diocese for additional support.
I appreciate your understanding and patience during these challenging times. We will keep you updated on any developments and sincerely hope for a quick resolution to resume normal college operations. Please keep an eye on the college website and the message service.
Thank you for your continued support.
