Transition 2021
The letter below are for parents of pupils currently in Year 6, starting Year 7 at Newman College in September 2021:
Transition 2021
Please can I take this opportunity to introduce myself, I am Nicola Foley Assistant Head Teacher with a responsibility for transition. I am currently working with my transition team and all the pupils’ Primary School so that we are fully informed about all our children who will join us in September
Transition can be daunting; your child moving from Primary where they may have been for the last 7 years to taking a huge step into the unknown. You will have so many questions you would like answering. With this in mind we will set up an email for you to communicate with the whole transition team. Please used this contact forum to ask any transition related questions you may have. When emailing place can I ask that you:
1. Include your child Name and current Primary School
2. Introduce your relationship to the child and your name so that we can communicate back properly
The email address is transition2021@newmanrc.oldham.sch.uk
This email will be up and running from Monday 7th June and will be open until the end of the half term, Friday 23rd July 2021. We look forward to hearing from you and hope that this will be one way that we can introduce ourselves and reduce anxiety level around what we know is a very unsettling time.
Key dates for Transition:
1. Transition video will go live Monday 7th June 2021
2. LEA wide Transition days in college Wednesday 30th June and Thursday 1st July, further information will follow.
3. Parents information evening Wednesday 30th June, this will be a virtual meeting and details will be shared after half term
This year the LEA Transition days will be held in college. The dates are Wednesday 30th June and Thursday 1st July. The pupils will be expected to come straight to college on those days and will gain access into college Via the Main Performance Hall, this is located near to the bus lane. Staff will be here to welcome the pupils from 08:45.
During these two days each child will meet their form tutor and spend a substantial amount of time with them, they will also access a variety of lessons, sampling what life will be like at college from September. During these two days we will provide lunch, this will be in the form of a grab and go lunch, consisting of Pizza, Panini, some cold sandwiches and drink and a biscuit. If your child would prefer, they can bring their own packed lunch, pupils will not be able to by a lunch on those days. We ask that each child arrive in full primary uniform. Can they also bring a bottle of water, no fizzy drinks or energy drinks are allowed.
At the end of the school day pupils will exit out of the Main Performance Hall, the same way they came in. Arrangements for the end of the day will be the same as they will be in September, they will leave already knowing how they will get home. Please can you arrange all collection and pick ups from school with your child, so they are clear of what they are expected to do at the end of the day and if meeting you where this will be. There is no parking at college so any face to face collections will need to be on foot and having parked at San Rocco and walked down.
The school day on a Wednesday for the whole college is different from a usual day finishing at 13:45pm. This means that Children will exit college on Wednesday 30th June at 13:40pm. On Thursday 1st July they will leave college at 15:10. They will leave college via the Main Performance Hall.
Transition days are always very exciting for the pupils but we know you as parents and carers it can be nerve wracking. We have planned a Parents Information Evening Wednesday 30th June, this will be a virtual event and details and links will be shared in advance of the event via the College Twitter page @NewmanRCcollege, my Twitter page @KS3Transition and the college website www.newmanrccollege.oldham.sch.uk
Thanks in Advance
