Y9 Parents Evening - 10/02/21

Dear Parent/ Carer,

Year 9 ‘Virtual’ Parents Evening - Wednesday 10th February 2021

I am writing to inform you that the Year 9 Parents Evening will be held virtually on Wednesday 10th February 2021. The virtual system can be accessed through the existing parents evening booking system found through the Parent Portal of the college website. Appointments will be open for booking from 9:00am on Wednesday 27th January. The evening will run from 2:45pm to 7:30pm. Bookings will close for bookings at 2pm midday, Tuesday 9th February.

Clearly this will be a very different experience, however the aim is to keep it as similar to our usual ‘face to face’ appointments as possible. The teacher will have their camera and microphone on and therefore please can we insist that you do the same throughout each appointment. Please ask your child to join you for the appointment so that they hear first-hand how they are progressing and what they need to do next. Additionally, please have to hand your child’s latest progress check report which will be received prior to the evening via post.

To access the video system you will need to check you have a compatible web browser which are listed in the user guide attached. We strongly advise that you check this as soon as possible and any issues please get in touch before Tuesday 9th February. Appointments with each of your child’s teachers are bookable for a five-minute slot. You need to click start appointment to commence. If you are late for your allotted time you can still join the appointment, however, it will end at the scheduled time and cannot be extended. The video will begin to countdown from the start of the appointment and will automatically end after five minutes (you will see a countdown at the top of the page).

Appointments are made on a first come, first served basis and must be booked in advance. You will not be able to log on and see a staff member without a time slot and please note that appointments must not be recorded as it is illegal to do so. Appointments for the subjects of Art, Drama, Design Technology and Music are limited due to all Y9 students studying these. We ask that you consider only booking an appointment for these subjects if you have any concerns or if your child is thinking of studying the subject as a GCSE option. We will therefore also provide an update on what Y9 students have studied and will move on to study in these subjects.
