Year 9 GCSE Pathways

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Year 9 GCSE Pathways

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the ‘GCSE Pathway’ process. We have started to communicate the process, to the Year 9 pupils during assemblies and would also like to share with you, an understanding of the overall process and a timeline of how this will look in college.

Currently KS3 pupils study a wealth of subjects in preparation for GCSE’s. The progress that your child has made throughout KS3 will determine which pathway will be suitable. The four Pathways are listed below, the structure of these will be outlined on an individual basis once assigned to the pupil.

• Scholar Pathway

• EBacc Pathway

• Open Pathway

• Personalised Pathway

Each pupil will be assigned a Pathway, and this will determine the subjects they will study. All pupils are required to study the following subjects as a full GCSE taken at the end of year 11.

• English Language

• English Literature

• Maths

• Science

• Religious Education

• History or Geography (This commenced at the start of year 9 and will continue)

Additionally, the majority of pupils will study French and all pupils will have the opportunity to study at least one other subject of their choosing.

Please observe the timeline below.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs N Foley

Assistant Headteacher KS3
