Drama & Performing Arts

Year 7

Students in Year 7 are taught on rotation and receive a total of 24 lessons of drama during the year. In this time, they will cover the following topics-

  • Introduction to Drama
  • Using Stimulus in Drama
  • Using Script in Drama
  • Design and Production

Year 8

Students in Year 8 are taught on rotation and receive a total of 24 lessons of drama during the year. In this time, they will cover the following topics –

  • Theatre in Education
  • The History of Theatre
  • Studying a Play
  • Genre & Style

Year 9

Students in Year 9 receive two lessons of drama per week for the full academic the year. In this time, they will cover the following topics –

  • Creating Issue-based theatre
  • Surrealist Drama
  • War poetry
  • Symbolism
  • Character and Status
  • Music in Drama
  • Soap Opera
  • Physical Theatre
  • Careers Within the Industry
  • Independent Project

Year 10

Students in Year 10 will study the BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts or OCR GCSE Drama.

These courses will be taught for five lessons over a period of two weeks during Key Stage 4.

  • Developing Skills and Techniques
  • Performing to a Brief

 

OCR GCSE Drama

  • Devising Drama
  • Presenting and Performing Texts
  • Performance and Response

Year 11

Students in Year 11 will study BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts.

The course is broken down into the following units and taught for two lessons a week over the year.

  • Exploring the Performing Arts
  • Developing Skills and Techniques
  • Performing to a Brief
