Summer Concert Rewind

Due to covid-19 restrictions, this is the first year that Newman RC College could not host its annual Summer Concert. For this reason, the music department decided to do something a little different.

We have been in touch with a few musical alumni and found out what they’ve been up to since leaving our school. Each of our former musicians has kindly sent us a special lockdown live recording, to remind us of the talent they developed over their time at school. We hope you enjoythe videos!

Justine (2014) & Jazmine (2018) took part in many musical activities whilst at Newman. Justine is just finishing a Masters in psychological research & Jazmine is starting a psych. & linguistics degree in Sept! Thanks for contributing girls!

Anuszka (2015) will soon start her final undergrad year at Leeds College of Music & is planning on doing a Masters too. She has played music in operas, orchestras, windbands… Today she’s sharing part of Neruda’s trumpet concerto in Eb.
Isabel (2016) sang in many Newman groups and went on our music trips to Belgium & Germany. She also played Nancy in our production of Oliver! She has continued her music making & is currently studying MT and performance at The Hammond.
James (on the left!) was in my very first GCSE music class, at one of the schools that became Newman – Yes, I feel old! He completed both undergrad & masters degrees at the RNCM & now works as a session guitarist, producer & guitar teacher.
Now for something a little more recent… Chelsey (2019) left Newman College just last summer and is currently studying Musical Theatre at Pendleton College. We look forward to hearing more about her musical journey in the coming years!
Ben went to one of the schools that became Newman College & has toured all over the world, performing in bands at theatres, arenas… He’s currently the touring keys player for ‘The Human League’ and also performs with Grammy nominee, Yola.
Why not check out this other video, featuring Ben alongside The Untold Orchestra. During lockdown they shared their own rendition of the Stevie Wonder classic ‘Knocks Me Off My Feet’ from the album, ‘Songs in the Key of Life’.
We couldn’t have a Newman concert without featuring some dance. Mia (2019) left Newman at the end of last year & now studies a wide range of dance styles at Rare Studio Performing Arts College, Liverpool. Thanks for the video, Mia!

That’s it for our Newman College Rewind posts!

Hope it brightened up your day a little. Thank you to all the alumni who contributed, I really appreciate it. If you want to support them by retweeting, even more folk might get chance to see their fab performances! Thanks!
