Year 11 Careers Advice

A message from Careers Advisor, Joanna Whitehead:

Hello Year 11’s!

I will be working from home for a while but just wanted to offer my careers support by email.

I will be accessing my Newman email daily but maybe the best email going forward is my Positive Steps email: I access this more often.

For those who have offers at Colleges– well done for securing your offers and the colleges will be in touch over Summer regarding your enrolment or any Summer schools they may put on. Make sure you have accepted any offers you are given. Remember you can accept a few offers and just decide on one at the end of August.

For those who still need to apply for college, let me know asap. I can help you do this via the internet or speak to the colleges for you. It is not too late to apply for some colleges such as Oldham, Tameside, Hopwood Hall.

For those who are looking for apprenticeships, now would usually be the best time to start contacting employers. It may be more difficult as companies may be closed but you can email companies and they will pick these up at some point. I have seen some of you and given you job application packs, example CV’s etc.. but for those who haven’t seen me and want some advice please contact me asap and I can email you some info. The best website to search for apprenticeships on

For those who want to complete a CVfor Summer work or an apprenticeship you can contact me for advice but I will send an example of a CV and some guidance on a second email for you all should you need it. CV’s can be difficult to do at first so if you want to have a go and email me what you have done I can advise and make any tweaks should there need to be any.

For those who are still undecidedplease get in touch asap as we can have online discussions around this and come up with a plan.

If anyone would prefer to speak to me rather than email you can contact me on 07587 585 390.

Please keep checking your email as if I get any apprenticeship advertisements or messages from college I can send these onto you.

As I said any questions you have just get in touch.
