Today was our first ever Culture Day at Newman Catholic College. The children had lessons on culture, roots, representation, language and being stronger together. The panel was made up of speakers from different countries, cultures and religions and aimed to share these with our young people so that they can discover their own culture and be proud of who they are. Our students dressed in their cultural clothes showing pride in their identity and their heritage.
At lunch time we held a talent show where students performed for our staff judges, they sand songs they considered to be a part of our culture and kept the audience really engaged. They showed the true meaning of our value of courage.
After school we held a charity event based on culture, we sold books, held science experiments, did religious colouring, took part in geographical activities, held sports events and the most popular event was soak a teacher, held by the maths department.
We have used the celebration to raise money for charities important to our students and also to collect food items for our food pantry. We are so very proud of our whole community today and that we were able to celebrate our diversity and the diversity of where we live!
