On Wednesday 28th January, we hosted the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award presentation evening at Newman College. Parents, carers, friends and family joined us to celebrate the hard work, commitment and resilience of students completing their Bronze and Silver Awards, with 50 students successfully achieving their Award and receiving their certificates and badges.

The students have been on a challenging and rewarding journey. They committed to weekly volunteering, developed a skill and took part in regular physical activity, dedicating at least one hour per week to each section. In addition, they undertook extensive expedition training before completing demanding expeditions in which they were completely self‑sufficient, working as a team and navigating independently.

We were honoured to welcome the Oldham Youth Mayor, Penelope Spencer-Simpson, who shared inspirational words before presenting the certificates and badges alongside their Assessor, Mr Grimley.

Completing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a significant achievement, and our students should be extremely proud of everything they have accomplished.
