Dear Parents/Carers,
As the summer break begins, I would like to thank you sincerely for your continued support during this academic term. This letter marks the close of my first term as Headteacher, and I want to take this opportunity to say how grateful I am for the warm welcome I have received. Having worked at Newman for several years, it has been a privilege to step into this role and begin leading a community I care deeply about.
Over the past term, I have seen first-hand the exceptional commitment of our staff, the enthusiasm and resilience of our students, and the invaluable partnership we share with you as parents and carers. Together, we continue to build a college that is centred on Christ, driven by aspiration, and united by our Catholic values.
Highlights:
Our Year 11 students approached their public examinations with maturity and focus. We are proud of their efforts and look forward to celebrating their results in August.
We welcomed our new Year 7 cohort with a full transition programme to support a smooth and confident start to secondary school life in September.
We have continued to raise standards in behaviour, learning, and personal development across the college ensuring that every child is seen, known, and supported to flourish.
The pupils have been offered many experiences from trips to Rome, Berlin, London, Belgium, Duke of Edinburgh, Fieldwork experiences, University visits, Theatre visits and much more.
We have been awarded the EPDA (Excellence in Personal Development Award), Gold School Games Mark and Faith in Action awards by Bishop John.
We have seen the pupils demonstrate their God given talents in the Christmas Concert, Summer Concert, school production of Matilda, came fourth in the country for Debate mate, celebrated multiple sporting achievements and much more.
Dawn’s Pantry was opened in May to support our local community and a massive thank you for all the donations of food, money, and preloved uniform.
We have celebrated our faith and our rich cultures; Culture Day, Faith Formation days, celebrated masses throughout the year and have worked closely with our Parish priests.
September news:
Drama will be taught as a discrete subject from September in KS3, after a successful appointment of Mrs Burrough, Drama Curriculum Leader.
Year 10 will be the first cohort to study Psychology GCSE under the leadership of Miss Kelleher.
Year 10 will have the opportunity to carry out work experience due to changes in DFE guidance.
The School Council will be launched in September along with our Head Students, Senior Prefects, Prefects, Form Captains and Vice Form Captains, Pupil Chaplains, Anti- Bullying Ambassadors, Sports Captains, Caritas Ambassadors and Mini Vinnies. This will give pupils many opportunities to help shape the college.
Year 7 and 8 will start our Catholic Character Education program in form time which will tie in with our Formation Friday. This will allow the pupils time to reflect on the Gospel reading of that week and look at how they can be positive role models in society.
