Dear Parents/ Carers,

I am writing to you as I begin my role as Headteacher of Newman College. It is both a privilege and an honour to take on this responsibility, and I am eager to continue the excellent work we do here to ensure the success, growth, and well-being of every one of our students.

At Newman College, we pride ourselves on being a community where academic excellence and Catholic values go hand in hand. As a large secondary school, we recognise the diverse needs of our students, and I am committed to making sure that each child, regardless of their background, has access to the highest standard of education. I firmly believe that a successful education is one that nurtures not only the intellect but also the heart, spirit, and character of each young person.

Our mission is clear: to create a learning environment that is underpinned by the values of the Catholic faith—compassion, integrity, service, and justice. We aim to foster a culture where all students feel valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their best. We are a school where faith is lived out every day, where every student is encouraged to engage and develop not only academically but also as a person of character, preparing them to be knowledgeable, thoughtful, and compassionate members of society.

As the new Headteacher, I am committed to working closely with staff, students, and families to ensure that Newman College continues to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, offering students opportunities to develop in every area, whether that be academically, socially, or spiritually. We will continue our drive on raising aspirations, building resilience, and promoting a culture of respect, collaboration, and care for one another.

I recognise the importance of partnership between home and school in achieving the best outcomes for our students. As such, I am looking forward to building strong relationships with you to ensure we work together in the best interests of your children.

As we move forward, I am excited for the opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we will continue to strengthen our Catholic ethos, maintain high expectations for all our students, and create a school environment where young people are prepared for success in the world beyond secondary school, equipped with the academic qualifications, personal qualities, and faith-based values to make a positive impact on the world.

I thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. I look forward to working alongside you in the coming years to ensure that Newman College, continues to strive to be a place of learning, faith, and community.

As a Catholic school community, we will take time to reflect on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord on Thursday, 29th May 2025. This reminds us that although Christ ascended to Heaven, He remains with us always, guiding and strengthening us in our daily lives.

Yours sincerely

Mrs K Phillips
