Notice to Parents - Mr Potts

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you well and you managed to gain some precious time with family and to rest over the Christmas period. I am writing to inform you of an important change in our college leadership. Our Headteacher, Mr Potts has taken the decision to step away from his role at the end of the Easter term. This was not an easy decision for him, and he has kept me informed of the challenges around such a decision from the start.

Mr Potts has been an integral part of Newman College for many years, demonstrating dedication and commitment to our college community and the wider town of Oldham. We are disappointed to lose him, but know that the wider staffing and culture of the college will see us through this transition.

Newman is lucky to be fully staffed and despite significant financial challenges in education, is still able to give students opportunities far beyond that of other schools. The building still causes challenges, but through hard work and a relentless pursuit towards accountability, Mr Potts has secured funding to provide modular classrooms of the highest standard, thus reducing the impact of any leak or partial closure. His leadership has been instrumental in guiding our college to its current position of strength.

Please be assured that both Mr Potts and the Governors remain fully committed to ensuring a smooth transition and continued excellence at Newman College. We will begin the process of recruiting a new Headteacher immediately, and we are confident that we will find a leader who will continue to uphold the high standards and strong Catholic values of our college that we are so proud of.

Newman College is in a strong position, with academic results that consistently place us in the top third of schools in Oldham. We have not allowed a misjudged Ofsted inspection to deviate us from our plans and we know that the college remains in high regard and demand. We continue to ensure that we serve our diverse community with the example of Christ in our minds. We are proud of our achievements and remain dedicated to providing the best possible education for your children.

We wish Mr Potts all the best in his future beyond education and thank him for his leadership.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this time of transition.

Yours sincerely,

Mr J Cassin

Chair of Governors
