On Wednesday 28th March, 23 students took part in the Urban Debate League Debate Mate Competition which is a national competition where students compete against school across the country. It started off with a planned debate on the motion "This House would allow students to vote in the general elections" All three of our teams won their debates against some tough competition.
The second debate was on the motion "This House would ban the use of mobile phones in schools" Again, our three teams won all of their debates! We are now waiting for the leader board to see what place we have come nationally. After round 1 of the UDL competition which took place in January, we were 45th nationally out of around 250 school taking part. The students have worked incredibly hard and performed amazingly well in both competitions. They have developed their public speaking skills, team work and empathy skills. Everyone at Newman is incredibly proud of their efforts and success. There will be an update on our journey once the leader boards are published.
