Year 8 Letter Home - & Juliet

RE: & Juliet – Y8 Theatre Trip

Dear Parent / Guardian,

Following on from our recent trips to see Shrek The Musical & Hamilton, I am delighted to announce that we have arranged another opportunity for our Newman College Year 8 pupils to watch a musical at the theatre.

On Wednesday 17th July we will be visiting Manchester Opera House to watch the stage musical of ‘& Juliet’. The show focusses on a “what if” scenario of Juliet not dying at the end of Romeo & Juliet. The show features lots of famous pop hits, such as ‘I want it that way’, ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Oops!... I did it again’.

The timings for which can be seen below:

13:15  - Depart from Newman College on coach

c.13:45 - Arrive at Manchester Opera House

   14:30 - Show starts

   17:00 - Show ends

c.17:15 - Depart from Manchester Opera House on coach

c.17:45 - Arrive back at Newman College

(Pupils will message you when we are almost back to school & updates will be posted on X, formerly Twitter)

More information will follow nearer the trip date but please be aware that attending this trip will mean that pupils won’t be back in time for the school buses, and therefore you must make travel arrangements to get them home upon our return to Newman College. In addition to this, pupils will miss the college lunch break. Therefore, they will need to bring a packed lunch with them. Pupils on Free School Meals will be given a grab-bag, packed lunch to take with them.

There are only 50 places available for this trip and will cost a contribution of £30 per pupil.

If you would like to secure a place for your child on this trip, then we are asking for the £30 payment to be made via ParentPay. ParentPay for this event will go live at 12:30pm on Thursday 9th May. Places will be filled on a first come, first served basis and so I would highly recommend putting this time in your diary, as we expect places on the trip to be in high demand. Previous trips have sold out in a matter of minutes, so please be aware of this date and time to try and avoid disappointment.

This is an excellent opportunity for our pupils to visit a theatre, particularly those who have a keen interest in the performing arts. I am sure it will be an extremely enjoyable experience for all involved. If you have any further questions about this trip then please do get in contact with me on the number, below.

Yours faithfully

Mr M Edwards, Curriculum Leader - Music
