Welcome to Newman RC College

As Headteacher of Blessed John Henry Newman RC College, I warmly welcome you to our website: the portal to learning a little more about our wonderful community. Our website acts as a window in to the work we carry out, but it can in no way capture the true extent of our mission. We are fiercely proud of our Catholic ethos and our values.

Our values are:

Love – the greatest of Commandments, to love one another as Jesus loves us.

Faith – in God, in humanity, in each other. Faith in our community and the talents we have.

Courage – to do the right thing, which can often be difficult. Having courage to live out our values in a world that challenges them.

Vocation – using our talents and interests to build a future where we all play a positive part.

Service – to give more than we take, to help those in need and to act in a way that demonstrates love to all

And Dignity – rooted in the fact that we are all created in the image of God.

Our College motto is ‘Dignity and Excellence’ and we strive each day to ensure that we embody both. We believe that our college offers a life affirming opportunity to staff and young people to work towards the ‘mission’ that our patron, John Henry Newman celebrated.

Our mission is to ensure that we serve our diverse community to achieve a ‘common good.’ We wish to be known for our achievements; those who come in to contact with us will see that our values are lived out in our work. We believe that we have a duty to protect the education of the ‘whole child’, encouraging the arts and extra-curricular opportunities without ignoring the requirements for strong academic performance and good social skills. We strive to ensure that all children leave our college with appropriate next stage options, confident that they can live out their own aspirations with the foundation provided by their time at Newman College. We encourage parental support and strong communication so as to afford parents confidence that we act with love and their child’s best interest.

We are a college that looks to improve on a daily basis, knowing that if we are better today than we were yesterday, then we are doing God’s work.

About our college

At Newman College we cultivate and celebrate our distinct Catholic nature through the promotion of ‘Dignity and Excellence’ for all members of our College family. John Henry Newman wrote ‘God has created me to do Him some definite service; He has committed some work to me which He has not committed to another. I have my mission.’ Newman College is committed to placing faith at its centre, radiating the Gospel values of love, service, courage and reconciliation from the physical and spiritual heart of our learning community. ‘I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons’. At Newman College we celebrate collectively in our triumphs and we are united in our trials.
